Junior Varsity Head Coach
Coach Kelly, in his second year at Mountain Pointe, has been promoted to junior varsity head coach. He was a JV assistant in 2014.
Coach Kelly is in his 22nd year coaching high school football, 20 of those at his alma mater, Corona del Sol. He was interim head coach of the Corona varsity the final five games of 2013, inheriting an 0-5 team at midseason and improving it to 3-2 down the stretch. He also coached wrestling and track for the Aztecs.
Coach Kelly continues to teach Social Studies at Corona.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Arizona and his Master’s in Education at Arizona State.
Coach Kelly says he is privileged to be part of the Pride community and appreciative to Coach Norris Vaughan for giving him the opportunity.
JV Defensive Coordinator, Secondary & Running Backs
Coach Rhiner is in his first season with the Pride but he’s no stranger to high school football. He’s been a coach for 27 years, 26 at the varsity level, at eight high schools in metro Phoenix. His experience includes varsity head coach and coordinator. A Wisconsin native, Coach Rhiner earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After moving to Arizona, he received a Master’s in Education at the University of Phoenix. Coach Rhiner teaches Mathematics at Corona del Sol. He is married to Rhonda. Their children are Jennie, 20, and R.J., 19.
Offensive Line & Defensive Line
Working with linemen on both sides of the ball is a natural for Coach Silberschlag, who is in his first season on the Mountain Pointe coaching staff. He played offensive and defensive line himself for four years in high school at Corona del Sol in Tempe. Coach Silberschlag, who is attending Arizona State University, began his coaching career at his alma mater, Corona del Sol, last season. Coach Silberschlag says he is excited to move over to Mountain Pointe and work with the Pride student-athletes and coaching staff.
Secondary | Wide Receivers
Coach Griffin, entering his second season with the Pride, again will work with the secondary and wideouts. He is from Kansas City, Mo., where he graduated from Van Horn High School and played baseball, football, and was first-team all-conference in basketball. He then studied Construction Education at North Lake College in Irving, Texas. Coach Griffin spent two years as the head freshman and junior varsity coach at Maricopa High School and then was promoted to varsity assistant offensive coordinator. He also has spent 12 years helping youth football programs in the Valley. He has five children, two of whom graduated from Mountain Pointe. Coach Griffin enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Denise Aguilar.
Linebackers & Receivers
If his name sounds familiar to Pride fans, it should. “Izzy” Marshall returns to his alma mater this year on the coaching staff of the team where he once was an impact player. Five seasons ago, Marshall was All-State in football and All-State and All-Defense in basketball at Mountain Pointe. His 92 unassisted tackles (2009-2010) still rank among the Mountain Pointe career top 5. Coach Marshall received a scholarship to Arizona State, but his football career was cut short by a back injury. He now is a special education teacher, has a daughter, Isabella, and is engaged to Kelsey Gonzales.
